A tooth extraction may be recommended for several reasons:

- Impacted teeth, including wisdom teeth
- Overcrowding before orthodontic treatment
What Happens During Tooth Removal?
The type of extraction depends on the condition and position of the tooth:
- Simple Extraction: It’s performed when the tooth is completely visible above the gumline. After numbing the area, the tooth is loosened and removed using specialized instruments.
- Surgical Extraction: Used for teeth that are impacted, broken, or not fully erupted. The dentist makes a small opening in the gum and, when needed, removes the tooth in sections.

Is Tooth Removal Painful?
Local anesthesia keeps the area numb during the procedure, so discomfort is minimal. Most patients describe the sensation as pressure rather than pain. Post-procedure soreness is also common but short-lived.
How Long Does Healing Take After Tooth Removal?
Initial healing occurs within one to two weeks, depending on the type of extraction. Complete healing of bone and tissue continues over time.

- Rest for the remainder of the day after treatment
- Stick to soft foods for the first 24–48 hours
- Keep the area clean with saltwater rinses
- Avoid smoking or using straws during early healing
- Take prescribed or recommended medications as told by the dentist
